Getting married in Spain: this is how catering works at a destination wedding

Choosing Spain as a destination to get married is betting on a way of celebrating that is based on enjoyment, closeness and good food, where you can not miss dishes full of flavor and color. In our country, the best moments are around a table.

In the Mediterranean, these celebrations are lived without haste, outdoors and with gastronomy as a thread of all the experience. Sitges and its surroundings, where you will find our catering for weddings destination, has become one of the favorite destinations for couples looking for an elegant yet relaxed wedding; that informal air that makes it so cozy.

For those who organize their wedding from abroad, catering is much more than a menu:

It is confidence, accompaniment and the security of having a team that knows the place, the pace and how a wedding service works in Spain. From pre-planning to the last drink served at the party’s open bar, every detail counts.

How does a wedding schedule work in Spain?

Is it possible to do a tasting menu if you live in another country?

Does the team speak your language?

How do wedding schedules work?

How is everything coordinated, at a distance, so that the wedding day will be perfect?

These are some common questions among couples who decide to get married far from home and that are part of our daily lives.

The experience of getting married in Spain

As the vast majority of you know, in our country we like long-term weddings. We are talking about a very important (and unique) event, and therefore we want to enjoy it to the fullest; it is THE EVENT.

In particular, we refer to a celebration in which two of the things that we like to do most come together:

Socialize and eat.

We recommend not to miss the experience of getting married in Spain, as we have a lot of advantages that will make this day unforgettable, among them our delicious gastronomic proposal and great variety of high quality wines, a privileged climate that provides us with many sunny days a year and have many spaces to celebrate weddings.

One of the biggest challenges will be to choose the venue, since they are all spectacular. But no doubt a Spanish wedding is a guaranteed success.

Timings for destination weddings

One of the parts that we must work on in any event is the schedule, and in a wedding it is essential to mark a basic timing that will guide us for the whole day.

We will include the start times of each part of the celebration, assembly, disassembly, delivery and collection of materials and any other movement that is important to the couple or one of the suppliers who will work on that day.

What are the usual hours in Spain?

We can confirm that evening/night weddings are much more popular than day/lunch weddings.

And from here, we can establish a basis as regards the duration of the different parts;

  • Welcome drinks before the ceremony: 30 minutes.

  • Ceremony: between thirty minutes and one hour (depending on the type of ceremony; whether it is religious or civil).

  • Appetizer: one and a half hours.

  • Although of course there is the possibility of extending to two hours (or more if the couple wishes). We love it when they ask us for longer cocktails, as this is our favorite time of the wedding.

  • You see the couple enjoy, the guests interact, everyone eats and drinks, and there are photos and videos to remember.

  • Dinner: two and a half hours.

  • At this point we could go back to lunch vs dinner for a wedding. However, this will depend 100% on the idea of each couple.

  • Party: here it is the bride and groom who decide how many hours of open bar they want for the party. It is usually a service that is also agreed with the DJ and the catering or the company that takes care of the drinks bar.

It is very important to work hand in hand with the protagonists of the day, the wedding organizer if there and the catering company to be sure that all the service is done correctly and find a balance between all.

As a company specialized in destination weddings, when it comes to determining the timing of catering at a wedding we always listen to the customer, understand their needs and adapt as much as possible to international schedules.

Accordingly, we also advise them according to the month of the year in which they are going to be married.

A situation in which we have encountered several times, is to have couples who have wanted to start ceremonies in the month of August at 15h00, and at this time, it is where we guide and advise the client to understand that the weather in August in Catalonia, does not allow to do this.

If you want to enjoy the wedding a little more quietly in the hottest months of the year and taking into account that it is a foreign audience, the schedule should start from 17h00.

The couple makes the final decision; however, through remote organization, we always try to suggest the best for future brides and grooms based on our wedding experience and their audience.

The tasting menus for destination weddings

We're talking about one of the most important moments for the couple about to say "I do":

The menu tasting.

It is the pre-tasting that the bride and groom do (sometimes alone, others accompanied by wedding planners or relatives) to know, taste and decide the full menu that will be served on their wedding day.

These tastings are usually held between one year and a few months before the wedding. We offer a wide variety of dates and adapt to the couples' preferences, but again, it will depend on their availability for a tasting.

But... What if they can’t come to test the menu?

First of all; don't panic!

In case the couple can not travel to make the previous tasting, we take care of helping them organize and decide their menu online. You can not do a virtual tasting itself, but we can make calls to manage everything that the couple may need on our side.

We schedule calls to talk about details and explain which are the star dishes, we send all the necessary information by email and we are in constant contact with the bride and groom for everything they may need;

Photos of appetizers so they can see how they are to their guests' allergy consultations.

For us the most important thing is that you know all the details and have full confidence in your wedding menu.

Also, it is important to note that they may make changes to their menu after the tasting (if they do), and even a few weeks before. You’re supposed to get married once in a lifetime, and we don’t want you to have something on the menu that you don’t feel comfortable with or that for certain reasons is no longer what you want to offer.

If you finally prefer to have the citrus sunset sorbet instead of the chosen initial flavor, which could be for example the passion fruit, we will change it without problem!

How to organize a wedding catering remotely

Organizing the catering fro your wedding remotely may seem complicated, but with good planning it is 100% feasible. The most important thing is to have a reliable catering that offers a fluid and active communication (primary), clear menu proposals and constant support throughout the process.

Today, virtually all decisions can be made by video call, with photos, videos and recommendations customized according to tastes, and the menu test can be organized in a punctual trip

We have a local and very dedicated team, which puts maximum attention to every detail and who has experience in the place as well as with suppliers. We assure you that with us distance is not a problem, it simply becomes a way to manage the process.

Online meetings, clear and personalized proposals, quick response to emails, moodboards by the couple that help understanding their tastes and ideas, have bilingual teams that facilitate communication, English-speaking staff for the wedding day and a gastronomic proposal with high quality ingredients are some of the key factors that will help make a wedding destination a complete success.

The tranquility of the bride and groom, is our tranquility.

We know that every wedding is unique, special and unrepeatable. Therefore, we put all our efforts in having a good preparation, as well as in achieving the result of your dreams.

Constant communication, especially via email, is one of our strengths; we give quick and as detailed answers as possible.

The experience of getting married in Spain, if it is something you dream about, you can’t miss it.
